The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) helps recruit and sponsor English teachers who serve in China through the Amity Teachers Program. Five Presbyterian-sponsored teachers are among 33 Amity teachers sent by the National Council of Churches to work in China during the 1997-98 academic year. For more information about serving as an Amity teacher, call the PCUSA Mission Service Recruitment office at 1-800-779-6779.
This year the PCUSA has supplied more than 0,000 to support mission projects in China, primarily through the China Christian Council and the Amity Foundation. More than half of those funds came from Extra Commitment Opportunity (ECO) contributions made by individuals and congregations. ECO accounts exist for disaster relief, printing of Bibles, scholarships for Chinese theological students, training of lay leaders, Amity teachers and other programs. For more information contact Insik Kim, Worldwide Ministries Division, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202-1396; tel. (502) 569-5354.
